[REVIEW] Glossier Invisible Shield, Daily Sunscreen SPF 35

Saturday, July 14, 2018

Before I begin this post, I'd like to acknowledge that I was never interested in trying any of Glossier products before. I know that their advertisements are suuuuper appealing and unique on its own terms because they seems to be promoting a healthy-looking skin. However though, I gotta admit that I thought it was just all a gimmick. And I'm sure most of you have probably heard about this brand before, since everybody on Instagram are raving about how amazing their products are. Additionally, everybody seems to be using Glossier's signature makeup bag that will be included when you purchase their products.

So.. what's the hype all about? I am going to introduce all of you to the infamous sunscreen by Glossier, that claims to be suitable for all skin types!

It comes in a simple yet chic packaging.

You can see Glossier's logo on the top of the lid. (Good news: It's a pump, everybody!)

Before breaking down the ingredients, it should be noted that this is a chemical sunscreen. Meaning that this sunscreen contains organic compounds that will act as a UV absorber/filter. Unlike mineral sunscreens, these chemicals work by absorbing the UV rays into the skin to change it into heat, and then later releasing the heat from the skin. For more information about the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens, you can read it here.

This sunscreen is alcohol free, fragrance free, and it also doesn't use paraben and sulfate. It uses 3 active ingredients as a chemical UV absorber:
-Avobenzone 3%
-Homosalate 6%
-Octisalate 5%

Based on the analysis from EWG, this product has a hazard score of 3 (moderate). As we all know, since this is a chemical sunscreen, using chemicals has its own risk and limitations. However, I think this sunscreen is safe enough to use. As a person with an extremely sensitive skin, my skin is totally fine with this sunscreen. (But, we should always use a patch test whenever using a new product, just to make sure.)

Moving on to the texture, it has a silky texture and is transparent in color. A little bit does go along the way, and surprisingly, it absorbs really well into the skin. It doesn't leave any filmsy residue, and the finish is also matte. I would say this is the perfect sunscreen to use under makeup! And just a little side note, there's a hint of citrus smell on this product. But, it goes away as the product is absorbed into the skin, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I've been using this sunscreen for 2 months now, and I love it! My skin didn't get any bad reactions from this sunscreen, which is a good thing because most of the sunscreens that I've tried always ended up breaking me out. This sunscreen also absorb really well into the skin, it doesn't make my oily skin to get any oilier, and of course a little bit goes along the way. I think the texture is a win since it is transparent, it doesn't leave a white cast on your face! wohooo! The silky texture also makes it really easy to glide this on the skin. This would be the perfect sunscreen to use daily, especially under makeup! It won't make your makeup to look patchy because honestly, this sunscreen is more like a moisturizer. The only thing that I hope will be improved in the future is the SPF on this sunscreen. I think SPF 35 should be good to use daily, if you are not going to be constantly under the sun, or if the sun's UV index is still tolerable, then this sunscreen should be just fine. All in all, I love this sunscreen! It does the job, and it doesn't irritate my skin (based on the ingredients, it doesn't have a harmful ingredients as well!).

Rate: 5/5!

  1. Thanks buat reviewnya! Aku pengin coba beberapa skincare glossier soalnya x)

    1. Yupp! Waah ditunggu yaa review skincare Glossier yang lainnya, aku juga penasaran soalnya hahaha

  2. Thanks for this review! To be honest, sunscreen is crucial. Nevertheless, I wouldn't spend a FORTUNE on it, even if this one in particular made my skin a little less oily. At the end of the day, it's simply supposedly to protect skin from burning in the sunlight which the majority of sunscreens can do anyway. I understand this one has served you well, that's great, but I still wouldn't buy this product, no matter how many 5 stars it gets.

    1. Hi, thanks for reading! I know, there are many sunscreen in the market that are supposedly protect our skin from the UV rays, but I don't think you can generalize all of them. The ingredients included in a sunscreen is different from one another, and I think it's important for us to find the right one that can truly protect our skin, without any harmful side effects. :)
